Help your plants survive the sum

Help your plants survive the summer

The bright sun, the dry air and the extra light! There are plants that love the summer but other plants look a bit up to it. One plant is more thirsty, the other feels completely at home because of the heat but a few can totally stand up to this heat and burn alive! ;) Hmm, tricky, isn't it? Every plant has a different way of life and to make sure your plants get through the summer as well as possible, we'd like to give you a hand!

Make your houseplants summerproof

We'll start with your lovely houseplant buddies. They'll complete your room, each with their own look. But now the summer starts, you have to remember that not every houseplant is the same.

  • Move your plants. Some like the bright sun but don't forget that in summer the sun shines extra bright. The leaves burn much faster in summer! Look for a corner of your house where the sun shines for a while and where it sometimes shades, this is a perfect spot for many of your plants.
  • They are extra thirsty with this heat! Not only people get more thirsty with hot weather but also plants. So give them a little extra water during the summer period. It is better to give them a little water every day than a lot of water all at once. Is the soil dry? Then give them some water.
  • Support them during the heat waves with some extra plant food. They can certainly use this in the summer! There are different types of plant food, you have liquid plant food, food cones or granules.

How does my vegetable garden survive the summer?

We're moving on to your lovely little vegetable garden. In June you can not only sow, plant but also harvest. Some love the bright sun but others prefer to grow in the shade of others. So pay close attention to which plant you plant next to each other. In summer you can also start thinking about what you want to harvest in autumn. For example zucchini, leek and cabbage.

On vacation? What about your green friends?

Yes! It's summer vacation and you're going on vacation. But what do you do with your plants now? Take them with you? No, unfortunately the airline doesn't think that's a good idea. No, we'll explain to you how your plants survive without you!

  • Put the plants you have together, so they evaporate less moisture.
  • Move them and put them further away from the window than normal, this way they need less water.
  • Use a watering system, it's super easy and it really doesn't have to be expensive!
