What is macramé? You make decorations by hand tying threads. The technique comes from the 70's but you can see it in every hip interior. When making the plant hanger you can choose a simple variant but you can also choose the difficult one. Numerous variations are possible! You can work flat, like when making a wall hanger, but also in 3D like this plant hanger.

Hanging plants

You can choose different types of plants to put in your plant hanger but the best thing is of course a hanging plant. We have collected 7 plants for you that are easy to maintain and super trendy for your plant hanger!

  1. Senecio
  2. Phlebodium
  3. Hedera
  4. Rhipsalis
  5. Scindapsus Pictus
  6. Epiphyllum Anguliger
  7. Cactus

What do you need?

Plant

First of all, of course, you need a potted plant. You can choose a hanging plant or another plant. Make sure the plant is easy to maintain.

Rope

Look for rope in a color you like. The kind of rope doesn't matter, as long as it's sturdy. For example, look for a ball of parachute rope, sturdy cotton or a nice ball of wool. For a simple pendant you need about 12 meters. Choose a species that is at least 6 millimetres thick if you don't want to get your favourite plant on your head as soon as it hangs. :)

beads

Of course you can also add beads. It may be useful to make sure that the bead is wide enough for two strands. That's the best effect. By the way, beads are purely for decoration.

Scissors

That could be an ordinary kitchen scissors.

Macramé plant hanger pattern

  1. You need a total of 12 long wires, you can use about 2 meters for 1 wire.
  2. Lay a knot at the top of the 12 wires together.
  3. Make 3 groups of 4 wires.
  4. Take one group, you're going to use the two outer wires.
  5. Place the right wire over the two middle wires.
  6. Put the left wire over the right wire, pass it behind the two middle wires and insert it from back to front through the loop (of the right wire).
  7. Repeat this leaving the right wire at the top of the two middle wires and the left wire at the bottom.
  8. If it's okay you'll get a rotating form as you go on.
  9. If you find it long enough, do the same with the other wires so you get three arms.
  10. Ready? Tie a knot at the bottom of all three.
  11. Then from two flosses take 2 wires each. You're going to do the same thing only then you're going to put the right side up and then the left side up.
  12. If you've done this 3 times, grab your floss a little lower and tie a thick knot.
  13. Cut your floss nice and straight and your plant hanger is ready!
