Do It Yourself - Bird feeder and decoration for your garden

Now that autumn has started and winter is approaching, birds will show themselves more in your garden. By providing the birds with suitable food and housing, you contribute to maintaining the declining number of many common bird species. This also ensures a cosy atmosphere in your garden. In addition, it is also a fun activity to make your own bird feeders for your garden (or balcony)! We have listed a few examples for you.

Feeding house made of PET bottles

Bottles are not only suitable for drinking, but also for making a nice feeding house with the help of wooden spoons! Make one small and one slightly larger hole in the bottle and put a spoon through it. You ensure that the spoon sits at the larger hole and the handle at the smaller one. Make sure you place the spoon downwards. This makes it easier for the seed to run on the spoon. Fill the bottle with bird seed and screw the cap back on. Hang the feeding house with some rope in the tree.

Bird feeder made of crockery

Would you like to make an elegant DIY bird feeder? Then you’ll need to try this house of crockery. An old cup and saucer from your grandmother’s porcelain are very suitable as a bird feeder. Mix seeds with melted vegetable fat and pour it into the cup and let it set properly. Glue the cup with the side on the saucer. Make sure that the ear protrudes upwards, because you’ll need this to hang the feeder on a branch.

Bird feed pendants

Making bird food pendants yourself is not only very easy, but also a lot of fun. Mix seeds with melted vegetable fat. Cut a piece of household foil and put a mould on it. Also wrap some of the household foil around the mould. Put some of the mixture in the mould and put a nail or skewer in it, so that you can easily put a piece of string through it later. Wait until the bird food has hardened and, if necessary, put it in the fridge or freezer. Remove them from the mould and put a string or ribbon through your pendant. Your bird food pendant is now ready for use.
